2025 Swine Challenge

Project Essentials

4-H youth, ages 8-18 years old will have the opportunity to get a more in-depth knowledge in nutrition, health care, management, and showcasing their knowledge of swine production. The purpose of the Program is to not only provide and educational opportunity for 4-H youth, but to also help grow our swine program in Adams County.

Interested youth need to fill out an application to be eligible for the contest. All applications must be submitted on or before January 1, 2025. A committee will review all applications and will announce qualified participants by February 1, 2025. Once selected the individuals will need to attend the Welcome event and associated workshop to learn which pig will be their responsibility until exhibition at the 2025 Adams County Fair.

To successfully complete the project, participants have several requirements including record keeping, interview, showmanship, correspondence with an assigned sponsor/partner, average daily gain, and live placing.

Eligibility:
● Open to Adams County 4-H youth ages 8-18 years of age as of December 31, 2024.
● Youth must attend MQA training.
● Youth must attend Record book interviews in June.
● Youth must be a member in good standing in an Adams County 4-H Club.
● Contestants must be eligible to compete at the 2025 Adams County Fair.
● Youth may not participate if you have previously received Champion or Reserve Grand Gilt or Barrow at a previous Adams County Fair.

Shout out to this year’s Swine breeders!  Without them this program wouldn’t be possible!
